National Highways

National Highways is the UK government-owned company that operates, maintains and improves England’s strategic road network: 4,500 miles of motorways and major A-roads. Connecting the country, this network carries a third of the country’s road traffic, and two-thirds of its freight. Now employing around 6,000 people, and supports another 40,000 jobs in its supply chain. Between 2020 and 2025 National Highways will invest around £24bn: £11bn in schemes to improve our road network, and a further £11bn in operating, maintaining and renewing that network. National Highways is supporting the UK government’s commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
