Knorr-Bremse TruckServices has launched its latest solution for greater traffic safety: the collision warning system ProFleet Assist+ Gen 2 powered by Mobileye, helping bus and truck drivers avoid collisions when turning.
Today’s increasingly congested roads can significantly challenge the skills of commercial vehicle drivers, particularly when manoeuvring in chaotic urban traffic. Legislators have also joined the quest for an answer to this problem which has resulted in plans for a significant tightening of the licensing regulations for commercial vehicles.
For its part, Knorr-Bremse is continuing its longstanding commitment to traffic safety. The Munich-based company is not only the global market leader for braking systems; over the years it has also become a leading supplier of other safety-critical commercial vehicle sub-systems.
ProFleet Assist+ Gen 2 is the latest addi-tion to Knorr-Bremse’s portfolio of safety products for commercial vehicles. It is a retrofittable collision warning system developed by Knorr-Bremse TruckServices and Mobileye, an Intel company. The system combines Mobileye’s proven computer vision technology with Knorr-Bremse’s know-how in commercial vehicle applications and its extensive sales and service network. A key function of ProFleet Assist+ Gen 2 is to help avoid collisions with cyclists and pedestrians located in the vehicle’s blind spot. The ProFleet Assist+ Gen 2 package also includes other useful driver assistance functions such as forward collision warning, lane depar-ture warning and traffic sign recognition.
ProFleet Assist+ Gen 2 is a vision-based system featuring cameras and intelli-gent real-time data processing. It iden-tifies potential hazards in real time and provides visual and/or audible warn-ings, on all types of route (urban, extra- urban or highway). As a result, drivers can react to these hazards, thus helping to improve traffic safety.
ProFleet Assist+ Gen 2 is a retrofittable solution that issues acoustic and visual warnings but does not actively intervene in vehicle control. For vehicle operators this means lower costs, because they can benefit from cutting-edge safety technology without investing in new vehicles.
